Rihanna Review | 17 June 2013

Rihanna is at the top of her game; she’s won several Grammy Awards, is the most liked person on Facebook and continues to dominate the charts with each album and single release. She’s famous for her live shows and last night, she brought her Diamonds World Tour to Birmingham to perform in front of a sold-out crowd at the LG Arena.

After GTA played a DJ set as her support act, fans spent the interval doing the Mexican wave around the arena and there were two (awesome) guys in the standing area that got the crowd going with their dancing skills. Coming on stage alone to huge screams from the audience, Rihanna soon had her dancers around her and the crowd up on their feet. She rarely slowed down and had great choreography along with all her biggest hits including ‘Rude Boy’, ‘What’s My Name’, and ‘Umbrella’.

In one section of the show, Rihanna showed her softer side with a medley of her ballads ‘Love the Way You Lie (Part II)’, ‘Take A Bow’, ‘Cold Case Love’, ‘Hate That I Love You’ and a stunning version of ‘What Now’.

Rihanna quickly picked up the pace again and ended her set on ‘Where Have You Been’ before coming back on stage to sing two of her more recent hits: ‘Stay’ and ‘Diamonds’.

RiRi genuinely looked like she was having a great time on stage and the atmosphere in the arena was electric; she even commented that she remembered coming here before but couldn’t remember us “being this crazy!” Her backing dancers were brilliant as were her band (the guitarist especially so). Rihanna also performed one of my favourite songs ‘Rockstar 101’ which I was very happy about!

If you’re lucky enough to have tickets to her next show in July, expect lots of singing, dancing, fun, sex appeal and some brilliant outfits.
